Michael Duncan is a 1978 graduate of the United States Naval Academy with a degree in Engineering Physics.  His naval career as a nuclear engineer included a tour on a fast attack submarine, followed by an academic appointment at The Naval Submarine School where he served as a tactics instructor for senior officers. 
 
A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Mike entered the developing field of managed health care in the late 1980’s and was asked to run his first HMO in 1989.  In this capacity, Mike focused on new models for health care delivery, including the application of managed care principles to rural and frontier communities.  He was active in the health care reform movement in the early 1990’s.
 
Since 1995, Mike has served as Chief Executive Office of three large academic physician groups - Columbia Doctors, a 1,400 member physician group at New York Presbyterian Hospital, Temple University Physicians, and the University of Oklahoma Physicians.  He also led a startup Medicaid HMO, served as CEO of a Rehab Hospital and was President of a Physician Hospital Organization during the course of his career.
 
In May of 2011, Mike joined the Chester County Hospital and Health System as President and Chief Executive Officer.  This organization, nationally recognized for low-cost, high-quality patient care, is now a member of the University of Pennsylvania Health System/Penn Medicine.
