Dr. Robert S. Porter, editor-in-chief of The Merck Manuals, the internationally recognized medical reference books published by the American pharmaceutical company Merck & Co., explained how the manuals were developed and are maintained as a primary reference source for the medical community as well as consumers throughout the world. Under Dr. Porter's direction the manuals transitioned from print books to online references in both professional and consumer editions.
