Members of the Longwood Rotary Club, along with friends and family members, came together to make no-sew fleece blankets for students being served by Mighty Writers, El Futuro Kennett. The need was identified by El Futuro Bilingual Program Director, Sara Dickens-Trillo when she surveyed families at Christmas time. When asked what they wanted, the children replied, "my own blanket."
We were happy to be a part of a broader community-wide blanket collection over the winter months.

Mighty Writers is a reading and writing enrichment program and the El Futuro program focuses on bilingual students. This program was relatively new to the Kennett area when the pandemic struck. They quickly pivoted their efforts to providing basic needs to not only the students, but their families as well. They are currently serving over 300 families on a weekly basis!

Check out these amazing hats hand made by middle school students at Kennett's After the Bell Program and donated to Mighty Writers as well.
