Longwood Rotary Club sponsors Relay For Life of Kennett/Unionville June 8-9 at Unionville High School
Longwood Rotary Club and other members of the local community have assumed responsibility for organizing and supervising the Relay For Life of Kennett/Unionville. Longwood Rotary member Michael Zieg is chairman of the Relay and hopes to raise a $40,000 contribution for research and patient services with this "Grow a Cure for Cancer" fundraiser and celebration.
Supporters Will "Paint Kennett Square Purple" on Friday, May 6
Longwood Rotary members and other Relay supporters will be seen around Kennett Square as they "Paint Kennett Square Purple" to increase awareness of the Relay For Life and its important purpose. Posters, brochures, and purple ribbons will be on display to encourage community participation. Besides its important fundraising goal, Relay For Life is an opportunity to enjoy the company of others who share the goal of beating cancer and lifting up those who have survived or are fighting it.
Each year, more than 3.5 million people in 5,000 US communities as well as participants in 19 other countries gather in support of American Cancer Society Relay For Life events to raise much-needed funding and awareness. Relay For Life is a 24-hour event because "cancer never sleeps."
Schedule Starts: Friday, June 8 at 3:00 pm at Unionville High School. Ends: Saturday, June 9 at 12:00 pm
Friday evening's focus is to recognize cancer survivors, starting with a dinner and special T-shirts, and includes a lap around the track that sets the tone for the whole event. This special walk provides an opportunity for both the cancer survivors and their caregivers to celebrate success.
A moving "Ceremony of Hope" tribute of luminarias (paper bags containing lighted candles) provides a time to remember by name those who have been lost to cancer, to support those who currently have cancer and to honor those who have fought cancer in the past. Luminarias can be purchased in honor of or memory of friends and loved ones at the Relay For Life Website.
Fees $10 per registrant
